Credit Counseling

Before the filing of a bankruptcy, the court requires that you take a credit counseling course through one of its approved agencies. There is a small fee associated with taking the course, usually around $15. The counseling course can be done online or by phone. Once the course is completed a certificate of completion will be emailed to our office. This certificate is valid for 180 days.

To the left is one of the court’s approved credit counseling agencies, DECAF, that our office has worked with through the years. DECAF already has our office’s information and will email us a copy of the certificate as soon as it is completed. However, you may use any credit counseling agency that you like, as long as the agency you use is approved by the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for Utah.
